At the end of February and early parts of March, Ms. Orem's class will be conducting a two-week study on the Morton Theatre in Athens, Georgia and how that theatre made Athens the "music town" that it is today.  Students and teachers were both interested in music/theatre and building community which allowed us to dive deep into the detailed theatre that sits on the corner of Washington Street and Hull Street.  The learning process will be based on creativity and imagination while connecting to the state and Common Core standards.  Students and teachers will work together to create active activities that make connections between classroom work and the community around us.  I will not be the person "in charge."  I am a facilitator and a collaborator.  In fact, there will be classroom work that involves peer teaching, small group work, and teamwork.  Constantly we will be evaluating and assessing the work and progress of each learner.  By doing this, reflection is necessary.  I hope this study will allow all of us to grow and better appreciate what our community has to offer.  After all, Athens is not just a "college town."
